Go Help Ōnawe Pa!

Go Help Ōnawe Pa!

This week for maths The teachers wanted us to help the people at Ōnawe Pa, they were under the attack of Te Rauparaha. We had to use maps to find the most direct route to their pa.

1. Find and plot your current location as a coordinate (Kaiapoi Pa) - where is this in relation to the centre of Ōtautahi? Kaiapoi Pa 75,05

2. Find and plot your destination as a coordinate (Ōnawe Pa) - where is this in relation to the centre of Ōtautahi? Onawe Pa 94,54
Onawe Pa 115 km E (east), 130 km S (south) of Chch

3. You must measure distance between the two locations ( remember the roads we have today may not be your chosen path)

4. What is the most direct route from one place to the other by foot and by waka

5. Include the compass directions both locations are from the centre of Ōtautahi Kaiapoi Pa NNE (north north east) of Christchurch , Onawe Pa SE (couth east) of Christchurch

6. See if you can give the co-ordinates for St. Francis
71,84

I wonder wich one of the maori had the idea of a pa?
How they used to make maps when they didn't have a birds eye view?

  1. Hello Katrina,
Your blog is very cool. The photos look very cool. Did you use google maps or my maps for the maps? I have some feedback, when you said "I wonder witch one of the maori had the idea of a pa?", it is not spelled witch if you are talking about that kind of thing, it is spelled which. Anyways, your blog was easy to read and it made a lot of sense.

    thanks, corinne
