All my work from this week

Following instructions and skimming and scanning
For reading this week we choose a set of instructions to follow. The set of instructions did not say what it made you just had to find out. I did one that involved drawing and the drawing was of a penguin. The instructions would of been better if there was pictures for each step. I did not have a protractor so I did not really know how big of an angle 45 degrees is.
Writing instructions
For writing we wrote our own instructions about anything we wanted, but we where not spouse to tell what the recipe makes. Our instruction had to have less than 8 instructions. I think this is a delicious  recipe and  I think that you will all enjoy it too!
Maths
For maths we learnt about rotation, translation, reflection, and enlargement. With this knowledge we had to make a logo.

Poetry - Writing week 6 term 3

For writing this week we are working on poetry. We got to pick our own topic to write our poem about and we got to choose a poetry style such as haiku, rhymed poem, riddle poem and shape poem. I choose to do a shape poem about trees. I wrote my poem and then I attempted to make my writing look like a tree I tried making it look like a tall bushy tree but that didn't work so I resorted to a Christmas tree shape. I changed the colours so it looked some what like a tree.

Over all I am happy with he shape of my tree, but I am unsure about my writing it self. I don't really know how to write poems.

Compass directions - Maths Week 6 Term 3

For maths this week i learnt about compasses, directions and maps. Fro our create this week we had 2 options. One of them was to get a destination on google maps and put a grid reference on top and make 2 questions. The other option was the one I chose, to make a fictional map, put a grid reference and to write 2 questions.

If I where to do this again I would maybe add more structures I made my self and maybe write some more complex questions. Over all I think I did a decent job and happy with the overall product.

For the past weeks we have been writing speeches about 'the pursuit of happiness'. Next week we will be presenting our speeches. I wrote about happiness being a choice we make every day and how happiness impacts our life.

Travis gave me some feed back on my writing. Over all he thinks my writing is good and there is nothing for e to work on. I think I have done well in my writing . At first I was unsure about the topic I choose but now I think that my writing has developed well and I have some good structured paragraphs.

My māori diary

For the past 4 weeks in Māori, we have learnt about numbers, days and months of the year. We learnt how to say numbers up to 100, learnt how to say and remember the days and months of the year there is even a song to remember the months. Finally then we combined that knowledge into a calendar including, important days to you and your family.

To make this slideshow used the layout of this years calendar because not every month starts on Monday and had to change the days to Te Reo. Once I had finished doing that I added the important dates to me and my family. These dates include, my dads birthday, Easter, Ascension Day, my sisters brithday, my mums birthday, my birthday and Christmas. If I where to ever do this again I would try and make the numbers of the year in Te Reo as well. Would you like to learn the days and months of the year in Te Reo?

My takeaway from mindfulness - Reading Week 4/5 Term 3

This week has been a strange week being stuck in lock down. But this week I was able to finish my reading. For reading we read 3 texts and watched 1 video about mindfulness and inner peace. With all our knowledge around mindfulness and inner peace we had to write about it, and also include someone who has shown girt and perseverance.

I chose J.K. Rowling for my person who has shown girt and perseverance. When she was at school her teacher told her she was no good at writing but she still tried to become a writer, now she is one of the worlds best known authors and her books have been turned into movies!

The information I wrote about is what I have learnt and realised about mindfulness and growth mindset. I believe a growth mindset and mindfulness are very important to live a better and happier life.

If I were to do this again, I would write more about how to be mindful and at peace. Like breathing exercises and activities you can do to stay calm.

What kind of mindset do you think you have? Do you have a fixed mindset or a growth mindset?

Science of Happiness Task

In week 1 for PBL we learnt about the science of happiness. We learnt about Dopamine, Oxycontin, Serotonin, Endorphins ( D.O.S.E ) and what each of them are. With all the information we had learnt we had to make a DLO showing what we have learnt about D.O.S.E and ways we can increase our happiness. The work that me and Mimi did is below.

I liked learning about D.O.S.E and how those things affect us and hat they are. If I where to do this next time I would add more information about ways you can increase happiness because there are lots more ways you can be happy.

Reading Week 3 Term 3

The flowers represent growing and staying calm. The person doing yoga represents mindfulness because when I think of peace I think of calmness. The olive branch is a sign of peace. The heart represents loving and caring for others that makes us happy making us feel peaceful because we know we have people that love and care for us. The people jumping are a group of friends because peace is something that is stress free, we know we are happy around our friends.

I think am strong with physical well being because I do regular physical activity. I should work on social well being because I find it hard to work with other people.

Some people are as happy as they make their mind to be. How does that work!

For our writing this term Kaupeka is focusing on persuasive writing. This week I wrote a persuasive text about ‘happiness is a choice’. The text had to include persuasive words and a rhetorical question. My work for this week is the text below. :)

Happiness is a choice

Happiness is a choice we get to make. But how do we get to that choice? Psychologists believe that there are ways where we can choose to be happy. First, this can be done by  persistently thinking about the positives. Focus on the good things in your life.  Next, make happiness your number one goal like, create some challenges that challenge and excite you.

How you can be happy. Happiness is caused in different ways like if you get a reward, but sometimes just exercising makes you happy. When you exercise it releases endorphins which is a happy chemical which puts you in a better mood. But sometimes we are sad, sadness is longer term unlike happiness, like if you fail something you feel sad longer than you feel happy. But if you choose happiness you won't think of sad times longer.

Happiness is a good thing because deep down inside it’s what strives you to do your best and to keep being motivated to carry on.“Happiness is not something ready made. It comes from your own actions” -Dalai Lama. When my team lost our games in  basketball we were disappointed, if we would have won one more game we may have gotten into the finals. But I chose to stay positive. Based on this experience, I believe that the Dalai Lama was right; Happiness is not something ready made, You have to act on it.

For all these reasons, happiness is something you work for. We are not just happy all the time. You decide if you are happy or not, for instance if you fall over you have the choice to stand up and keep going or sit there. That is your choice to make. Happiness is key to living a better life. If you are happy you will want to move on when times are tough.

The Sunny 7,640 Islands - Writing Week 3 Term 2

From Writing this week we had to write about our Tūranagawaewae, it had to be less than 100 word and it had to be a show not tell pace of writing. Tūranagawaewae means standing place, were you think you belong. Show not tell writing means you have to use more descriptive language.
My Tūranagawaewae, which is the Philippines. This place is important to me because my mum grew up here and we have lots of family members there.

The Sunny 7,640 Islands

Just outside my window screen an array of lights is staring back at me, while herds of traffic conquer the streets. Manila is like a exotic jungle as the buildings stand tall like jungle trees.

The colourful delight of rich juicy fruits fills me with happiness as this new and exciting treat is cold and refreshing. The deep purple ube reminds me of a delicate purple flower.

Humid and hot weather is the perfect calling for the beach, the sand is a pale shade of cream and the sea is a pale blue. This is my Tūranagawaewae.

(97 words in total)

The reason why my title is The Sunny 7,640 Islands is because there are 7,640 island in the Philippines, and on the flag there is a sun.

Ube is a purple yam/sweet potato. It was only grown in the Philippines, but now it is grown in other places in Asia. It is used in desserts ice cream, cakes.

Were do you think your Tūranagawaewae is, were do you think you belong in the world the most? It could be a whole country or just a city or a lake!
