The Sunny 7,640 Islands - Writing Week 3 Term 2

From Writing this week we had to write about our Tūranagawaewae, it had to be less than 100 word and it had to be a show not tell pace of writing. Tūranagawaewae means standing place, were you think you belong. Show not tell writing means you have to use more descriptive language.

My Tūranagawaewae, which is the Philippines. This place is important to me because my mum grew up here and we have lots of family members there. 

The Sunny 7,640 Islands

Just outside my window screen an array of lights is staring back at me, while herds of traffic conquer the streets. Manila is like a exotic jungle as the buildings stand tall like jungle trees. 

The colourful delight of rich juicy fruits fills me with happiness as this new and exciting treat is cold and refreshing. The deep purple ube reminds me of a delicate purple flower.

Humid and hot weather is the perfect calling for the beach, the sand is a pale shade of cream and the sea is a pale blue. This is my Tūranagawaewae.

The reason why my title is The Sunny 7,640 Islands is because there are 7,640 island in the Philippines, and on the flag there is a sun.

Ube is a purple yam/sweet potato. It was only grown in the Philippines, but now it is grown in other places in Asia. It is used in desserts ice cream, cakes.

Were do you think your Tūranagawaewae is, were do you think you belong in the world the most? It could be a whole country or just a city or a lake!

Writing Week 9/10

Using your word bank, write and present (digitally/audio/video) a poem based around Ōtautahi.

The requirements are:

- it must use some knowledge from reading about Ngāi Tahu

- use at least two of the poetry tools from the toolbox.

Think about how you will present your poem - how could a visual element enhance your writing?

  

In my poem I talked about the art and the plants, because it is the garden city. I also talked about the ngai tahu making this place their home. 

Maths week 9/10

Refection, Rotation, Translation & Enlargement  

For maths this week our goal was Identify and use the features of a figure that do not change (invariant properties as it is reflected, rotated, translated or enlarged. 

Above is the work I did on auto cad, with some assistance. My starting image is a koru and it is  reflected, rotated, translated and enlarged. 

This week I learnt that when colouring a Maori pattern the in closed space should be red and the rest is black and white. 

Reading Week 9 - Pavlova Dome

PAVLOVA DOME  

My goal was while reading pick up new ideas and information. I got my idea for a pavlova for the sculpture of fruit in Cromwell and the gherkin in London. I thought to do this because it is the national  dessert. 

I wonder if they would actually consider build a dessert structure? 

Reading Week 7/8 - A Building That Christchurch Needs

Homeless shelter 

Christchurch needs a homeless shelter so the homeless would not take over the library in winter. this would provide them food and water and a space to clean. Down stairs will be a space to donate clothes. I think this would be a good idea so he would not huddle in parks and take over the library.

I am not sure where this building would be because there are still old building in the area I would like to put it but, I'm not sure if the council will knock the buildings down. I wonder if the council is thinking about making a homeless shelter? 

Christchurch Northern Corridor Open, But is it Really that Great?

BEEP BEEP, the cars are piling up on Cranford Street. Cranford Street used to be more controlled but these days cars zoom and block up the road. Now that the new motorway is open, do people find it hard to get to places or do they find it easier?

Are people even happy with the new changes? There are pros and cons to the new layout for these roads.Some think it's better because there is less traffic on their street, but it is directing the other

from that street to the other streets. For some people it is easier to get to places but for others

it's harder. It is hard to cross Cranford street now even if there are traffic lights. Cars pile up and block

the crossing. There are also more buses now. The road works have also affected the people around Cranford

Street. During the roadworks there were lots of sleepless nights and loud noises during the day. They have finally

stopped making loud noises but are they really finished?! 

They are making some side streets skinnier. They made some of the side streets one way, but some

people just ignore the signs. One day there's going to be an accident! 

The council says they want to boost the economy but there is no parking by the small

businesses on Cranford Street. People can’t go to the coffee shops or the dairy. How is this boosting

the economy? 

Some people are happy with the new motorway, some think it made the streets around

Cranford more dangerous and noisy. So, is the motorway a good idea or was it just a waste of money? 

 

Statistical Investigation of how people get to school

Student Transport to School

For maths this week week had to survey  people. My survey was about mode of transport. I displayed my work on a pie chart to show the percentage. 

Surprisingly none walked or took any other form of transport, probably because it was drizzling. I wonder what the results would be if it was not wet that day?
